Investments
Fair Trade cooperatives and self-help groups depend on the availability of affordable credit such as microfinance loans. Investing in micro-finance is yet another way that you, your family and your congregation can support Fair Trade.
The Presbyterian Church (USA) is the largest denominational investor in Oikocredit, an ecumenical micro-finance organization that provides low-interest loans to cooperatives and self-help groups all over the world working to lift themselves out of poverty. To date investments by more than 70 Presbyterian congregations have funded more than $5 million worth of microfinance and economic development projects through Oikocredit. The largest congregational investment to date is $500,000, by East Liberty Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, PA.
The PC(USA) encourages individuals and congregations to consider investing in Oikocredit.
